Good firms that missed out on this edition
We built a long list from Checkatrade, Which? Trusted Traders and the Trusted Trader scheme, then checked 20 firms in depth. Each got a score out of ten from the checks on the right. The table is that score, highest first.
Every firm here shows Gas Safe registration. Full accreditation marks go only to those we confirmed on the Gas Safe Register ourselves; the register then blocked our checks, so some firms with a number on their Trusted Trader profile score slightly less. Responsiveness has not been tested yet; scores are based on the other three checks, scaled to ten.
Volume and average rating on the main platform, plus credit for strong reviews on a second platform.
Full marks only where we confirmed the firm on the Gas Safe Register ourselves. A listed number or logo scores less.
Years trading, backed by Companies House or a membership date where we could find one.

Every engineer must carry a Gas Safe ID card. The back shows which appliances they are qualified for, such as boilers, cookers or fires. Check the number on the Gas Safe Register before work starts.
Most manufacturers ask for a yearly service to keep the warranty valid, and it is the best way to catch a carbon monoxide risk early.

Many Glasgow firms do both plumbing and gas work. They are scored the same way on both tables, but the tables include different firms, so positions can differ.
No. Nobody can buy a place in the table. Some firms pay to be on Checkatrade or Which?, but that only counts here because those schemes check identity, insurance and references.
