Rated 9.91 out of 10 from 146 Checkatrade reviews, 45 of them in the last year. Lee Hunt's firm is on the Gas Safe Register and covers boilers, unvented cylinders, underfloor heating and general plumbing. Checkatrade shows its public liability cover as unverified, so ask for proof when you book.
Wilson Street, Renfrew · Covers Glasgow, Renfrew, Paisley and Erskine
8.2out of 10
A Trusted Trader since 2012, the longest membership on our shortlist, with a 4.9 from 82 reviews. It is on the Gas Safe Register, is an approved Alpha boiler installer and works for homes and businesses. One 2022 review complained about slow replies, which the firm put down to losing staff.

One of the biggest review counts we found: 9.92 out of 10 from 953 Checkatrade reviews, with 268 in the last year. Ryan Smith's company covers emergency plumbing, heating and bathrooms. It does not name a gas or plumbing register on its profile, which keeps it out of the top five.
Kelvin Crescent, Bearsden · Covers Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire
7.6out of 10
The only firm on our shortlist we could confirm as a SNIPEF member, Scotland's plumbing trade body. It holds 4.9 from 48 Which? reviews and a perfect score on Trusted Trader, and is Gas Safe and Worcester Bosch accredited.

Good firms that missed out on this edition
We built a long list from Checkatrade, Which? Trusted Traders, the Trusted Trader scheme and the SNIPEF directory, then checked 20 firms in depth. Each got a score out of ten from the checks on the right. The table is that score, highest first.
Google Maps blocked our checks for this edition, so review counts come from Checkatrade, Which? and Trusted Trader. Responsiveness has not been tested yet; scores are based on the other three checks, scaled to ten.
Volume and average rating on the main platform, plus credit for strong reviews on a second platform.
Full marks only where we confirmed the firm on the Gas Safe Register or the SNIPEF directory ourselves. Logos and claims score less.
Years trading, backed by Companies House or a membership date where we could find one.
Anyone can call themselves a plumber, but only some can legally touch your gas. These checks take five minutes.
It is illegal for anyone who is not on the Gas Safe Register to work on gas boilers, fires or cookers. Ask to see the engineer's Gas Safe ID card and check the number on the register, including which appliances they are qualified for.
There is no legal register for general plumbing. SNIPEF is Scotland's plumbing and heating trade body, and WaterSafe lists plumbers trained in the water supply regulations. Either is a good sign.
In our 2026 table, Gasman Energy scores highest, with 9.7 out of 10. It has 1,217 Checkatrade reviews, is on the Gas Safe Register and has traded since 2008. For a long established family firm, look at J McCartney Plumbing & Heating.
Reviews are worth four of the available points. A firm we could confirm on the Gas Safe Register or SNIPEF directory, with a long trading history, can outscore one with more reviews but no register we could check.
No. Nobody can buy a place in the table. Some firms pay to be on Checkatrade or Which?, but that only counts here because those schemes check identity, insurance and references.
Once a year. Each annual edition is a full review of every firm, and from the 2027 edition the movement column will show who has climbed or dropped since the year before.

What to look for on the ID card, front and back, how to search the register, and what to do if something is wrong.
