Good firms that missed out on this edition
We built a long list from Checkatrade's Glasgow carpenter and joiner search, the Trusted Trader joiners category and Bing local results, then checked 20 firms in depth on their review platforms and Companies House. Each got a score out of ten from the checks on the right. The table is that score, highest first.
Several of the most reviewed firms are multi-trade companies that offer joinery alongside other work. We included them where joinery is one of their main listed services, and say so in each entry.
There is no licensing scheme for joiners in the UK. Our second check rewards independent vetting, a named registration or manufacturer approval, and a second vetting scheme. Google review counts could not be checked this time. Responsiveness has not been tested yet; scores are based on the other three checks, scaled to ten.
Volume and average rating on the main platform, plus credit for strong reviews on a second platform. Points come off where few reviews have arrived in the last year.
Independent vetting such as Trusted Trader or Checkatrade, plus credit for a named registration or approval and for a second vetting scheme.

Joinery covers everything from hanging a door to building a staircase. The right joiner for a sash window repair is often not the right one for a loft conversion, so match the firm to the job.
Many Glasgow tenements still have original timber sash and case windows and panelled doors. A joiner who repairs them, with new sash cords, draught strips and spliced-in timber, can often save them for a fraction of the cost of replacement. In a conservation area, replacing windows needs planning permission.
Removing a wall, converting a loft or adding an extension usually needs a building warrant from Glasgow City Council before work starts. Ask whether the joiner will arrange drawings and the warrant, or whether you need an architect.
Ask for a written quote that lists materials, who supplies them, what is excluded and how long the job will take. For bigger jobs, agree staged payments rather than paying in full up front.
In our 2026 table, Paisley Property Maintenance comes top with 8.6 out of 10, from 339 Trusted Trader reviews averaging 4.9 and 14 years on the scheme. If you want a specialist joiner rather than a multi-trade firm, Tomahawk Joinery is the highest-placed specialist, with 9.89 out of 10 from 120 Checkatrade reviews.
Three of the most reviewed and longest established firms we found are based in Paisley and serve Glasgow. Every firm in the table lists Glasgow as part of its service area.
In Scotland, joiner is the usual word for someone who makes and fits timber work in buildings, from doors and floors to roofs and staircases. Carpenter is used more in England and on review platforms, but the job is largely the same.
